Klout Takes Social Influence Mobile With New iOS App

Klout, the startup that measures influence on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Foursquare, Google+ and other social apps, is debuting its first mobile presence today with the launch of an iOS app. While Klout had a mobile website, this is the startup’s first native mobile app.

Klout evaluates users’ behavior with complex ranking algorithms and semantic analysis of content to measure the influence of individuals on social networks. The company is now topping 12 billion API calls, which is up from 100 million API calls in January 2011; and has more than 5,000 API partners, up from around 100 in early 2010. And it has indexed north of 100 million public profiles. Klout recently raised around $30 million in funding from Kleiner Perkins and others, with partner Chi-Hua Chien joining the startup’s board.

Back in February, Klout acquired mobile and local neighborhood app Blockboard, as a way to use the startup’s expertise to further develop its own mobile products. Blockboard co-founder Stephen Hood helped spearhead the development of the app.

Klout for iPhone is fairly simple in functionality. You can actually see your Klout Score from the icon on your home screen. When your Score changes or someone gives you +K, Klout will send you a push notification. In the app itself, you can view your own Klout Score and your influential topics. You can also discover and browse the people who influence you online.

Klout explains that the app was developed fairly quickly, and plans to add more features in the future. And we’re told an Android app is on the way.
