Mark One, the company behind the Vessyl smart cup, has today closed a $3 million seed round co-led by Felicis Ventures and Horizons Ventures
The Vessyl is a cup that tracks your liquid consumption throughout the day, not only by volume but on a molecular level to monitor overall nutrition. When you’re in need of a glass of water, Vessyl will say so. When you’re pretty well-hydrated, you’ll be able to see that, too.
The cup itself displays this information via an LED strip, as well as through an iPhone app that communicates with the cup via Bluetooth.
The idea is that, when you’re on a diet, liquids are the easiest thing to lose track of in terms of calories. Or, if you’re like me, you simply need to be reminded to drink more water throughout the day.
The Vessyl originally went up for a pre-order campaign in June that saw over $1 million in pre-orders.
Yves Behar, the same designer that worked on the Jawbone Up, helped design the Vessyl alongside his co-founder Justin Lee. In early July, the company hired Apple’s Hamid Mohammadinia as VP of Engineering.
When the device ships and goes to retail in 2015, it will have an MSRP of $199. However, for the pre-order campaign (which has been extended and is still in effect), Vessyl fans can place their order for $99.
