Ericsson buys Spanish telecom vendor Optimi to boost network services play

Sweden-based Ericsson has agreed to acquire Spanish telecommunications vendor Optimi, which provides networks optimization and management solutions to a diverse set of clients in the telecom space.

For Ericsson, the acquisition is a way to broaden the customer base for its multi-vendor network management and optimization business.

Optimi’s client roster includes carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, Telefonica, Sprint and Vodafone.

This is to reinforce and consolidate Ericsson’s leadership position in multi-technology, multi-vendor, Self-Organizing Networks (SONs) and OSS-based network optimization.

Furthermore it improves the company’s global capabilities to deliver value-added optimization services.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Ericsson will add some 200 employees to its workforce as a result of the acquisition.
